Lip Flair

So if I go like this and pull out, I'm widening across my upper lip. This also helps you get rid of these wrinkles. They're called in the smoker's lunge. But even people that don't smoke, I see that those lines are very common.

Happy is the real pretty. This technique is one of my favorites, probably because it’s the first one I ever mastered on my own. It’s called lip flare.

So when I was a little girl, I had these little dimples every time I smiled. And as time went on, they started to go away. And I even noticed that when I gained weight or lost weight that my face would kind of fill out and then kind of soften back down again.

You’ve maybe experienced the same thing. This is also a really popular area for collagen injections or fillers. When someone’s weight is low or they’re lean, you know, their blue jeans fit really well, they have a flat tummy, but they also end up a little saggy in this area because this is body fat.

And we need that to keep that full look in our face. So this method is not saying don’t get fillers, don’t get collagen, but it could actually compliment someone who’s already using those things, or it could be an alternative to naturally stimulate and rebuild and fill out all the muscles around the face. So I’m gonna show you a few different things.

We’re gonna learn how to go up with our upper lip, like this. It looks really silly. It’s like you’re trying to see your gums.

Sometimes I even try to get my lip to touch my nose. You can also go wide like this. So I’m gonna do a set of these and a set of these.

And then I’m gonna show you an added bonus with a pencil that’s actually quite challenging. I can barely do it myself. So I’m gonna hope that it works today.

Here we go. So I highly recommend that you use a mirror as it will help you get to know your mouth. We are all different.

So if I go like this and pull out, I’m widening across my upper lip. This also helps you get rid of these wrinkles. They’re called in the smoker’s lunge.

But even people that don’t smoke, I see that those lines are very common. So you’re pulling out like this, and then you’re just gonna flare up and you’ll see me do it 10 times. Although when you practice on your own, please do 20 and then hold for 30 seconds.

Here we go. And now I’m going to hold. Sometimes when I’m driving in the car and the music’s on, and usually when I’m by myself is when I feel more careless and I can really just get into it.

I hear the rhythm of the music and I will literally do these for the whole song. That’s a long time. Two and a half minutes goes by, three minutes.

This whole area feels like it just ran laps and did weightlifting. So as a fitness professional and a yoga teacher, I know what it feels like to work a muscle and then to see it change over time. And I just want you to know that everything that works from the neck down, which is why there are gyms on every corner and yoga is gaining popularity more and more in the modern world, because it works.

Well, this method is all about taking that science and applying it to your face. So although it might seem silly to sit there and go, oh yeah, I’m making my lip full. It really does work.

And I will notice if I don’t do it for a while, that not that I’m completely wrinkled, but I’ll start to see sort of just a wimpier look here. Like this is getting smaller. We’re always told that our lips do get smaller as we age.

Well, guess what? That’s because we’re not using our mouth for all that it can do. So here’s a silly one. Look in the mirror and say to yourself, A-E-I-O-U.

I am beautiful. Gonna demonstrate one more for you in the mirror. Here we go.

Remember when you do it on your own, it’s 20 reps and then 30 second hold, or go to the whole beat of a song if you’re really in the mood. So I’m not gonna use my hand this time. I’m just gonna flare out and create my dimples.

Hold. You can also work your bottom lip like this. It’s actually working into my neck too.

By the way, good news. So we have all these different techniques. Guess what? Once you get good at them, you can do many of them at the same time, multitasking.

You can do your lip flare and your eye lifts all at the same time. So take your time. Be patient with yourself.

Get interested in this subject because when you look in the mirror and you see the good changing for the better little by little, you’re gonna be overwhelmed with joy knowing that you can create that natural happy face that is your true nature.
