Inner Smile

Wrinkle Release "Inner Smile" (Facial Tension Exercise)
This Wrinkle Release video demonstrates how to smile from the inside to systematically relax and release the stress patterns that we hold in our faces. Please visit www.yogikait.com for a fuller description of these techniques.

This technique is for your face. We’re going to start with something called the Phoenix Eye. I learned this in Kung Fu. You take your pointer finger and you bend it. This little point right here is the Phoenix Eye.

You take your thumb and place it right in that groove. This is actually a technique for pressure points for combat but we’re going to use it for acupressure on our face. So you’ve got your two Phoenix Eyes and if this is too hard to manage just use your fingerprint.

Focus your attention on your eyebrows. You’re going to take the Phoenix Eye and press straight in and up. Not aggressively, just gently and then make contact. You’re going to release the pressure and move literally like a little bunny hop about two millimeters and then press again.

Take your time as you work your way down. Your focus is on this bone right at the top part of your eye socket. Remember to breathe and gently release the tension from this area. You can also take the Phoenix Eye all the way down and around your eyes.

This tool is useful for other acupressure techniques on your face such as right under the cheekbone. Take your time and find the cheekbone. It’s like a little curve and work your way. Keep your face soft.

Try to have no expression. Even your mouth slightly open. You can also just take your knuckles in general and press them right into your face and massage. Feels good. This technique, the Phoenix Eye or the pointer, can also be applied to this amazing pressure point behind your earlobe.

So right behind your earlobe there’s this little notch. This is your mandible, your jaw, and this is your little notch right there. You want to find it. It’s best when you do it to yourself. If someone else does this to you, you can get very like, ah, you’re hurting me!

So focus. Focus on your breath and relax and find that notch and then gently open and close your mouth. And you might feel some clicking and popping and just encourage that area to release. Don’t be afraid to open your mouth really wide, sometimes I even put my hands on the inside of my teeth and pull down.

These techniques are best done while lying on your back and relaxing, maybe right before Shavasana in a yoga class or before bed at home while you’re already in bed with the lights out, just giving yourself a little treatment.

You could think of it as a beauty treatment but even more importantly to help relax your mind, calm your nervous system so that you have a peaceful, happy, relaxed face naturally.
