Blowing in Firm “Skull Shining”

Blowing in Firm “Skull Shining” (Kapalabhati Pranayama)
This "Skull Shining" video demonstrates a type of Pranayama (aka breathing exercise) that helps rid the body of various ailments over time. Eventually, Kapalabhati should bring about a glow to the face of the practitioner. "Kapal" (forehead) + "bhati" (shining) = Kapalabhati (Skull Shining).

Kalabhati breath, it translates to skull shining. I know that’s another strange translation, but if you think about it, what would be wrong with polishing up the top of your skull from the inside out?

This breath is a forceful exhale, and in theory you’re sending that powerful vital energy up towards the top of your head. And it can be done different ways, sitting cross -legged, sitting on your edge of your bed, sitting in a chair.

In some traditions they sit kneeling with the hands here. If you’re really in the mood, you can pull up your shirt and actually watch your belly button go in and out, but it goes like this. Now that’s just a quick little demonstration, but you could count 60 if you want.

I personally am not much of a counter. I just go for a while, and then maybe a little bit longer, and then call it enough. So play around with that. There’s just another one called Breath of Fire. There’s many variations of these breath practices, and I look forward to sharing more of them with you.
